Dutch Design Week 2009

During Dutch Design Week 2009, the city of Eindhoven will be, for nine full days,completely dedicated to design. The largest design event in The Netherlandsoffers a platform to established design agencies, well-known designers, talentedupcoming designers and recently graduated designers.

 

What is where to see?

Every single day of DDW, there are various workshops, seminars, lectures, award ceremonies and parties to attend. During Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven and the Eindhoven region are teeming with design. You can visit events in almost fifty different locations. Apart from Strijp-S, there are dozens of locations and venues in the centre of the city, such as deWitteDame, TU/e (Eindhoven University of Technology), Designhuis, and Smalle Haven. You can also enjoy, experience, and admire the many projects taking place outside Eindhoven, in Bergeijk and in Helmond, for instance.

Strijp-S

The former Philips complex. Meanwhile, the buildings and the grounds have been designated to be used for various purposes, and a completely new creative industry is developing in this area. During DDW, 90 different projects are presented in and around the four halls of the characteristic Klokgebouw. There are also various workshops, seminars, lectures and award ceremonies at Strijp-S. The meeting point, the press centre and food & drinks are also located in the Klokgebouw. Opening hours Strijp-S is open from 12.00 noon until 06.00 pm. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12.00 noon until 09.00 pm.

deWitteDame building

This building was built in the late 1920s and used to be a Philips incandescent lamp factory. Nowadays, De Witte Dame houses Design Academy Eindhoven, Philips Design, Krabbedans Centre for Visual Art and Design, and MU Exhibition Space for Contemporary Art.

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)

In the field of cutting-edge technology, the Eindhoven University of Technology is a major partner of the business community and the authorities. During DDW, the University shows the visitors the technically oriented aspects of design and architecture in, for example, the exhibition Design United. Ranking among the top three of European universities, the Eindhoven University of Technology holds an eminent scientific base of operations.
